One of California's leading abstract expressionist painters, Contra Costa resident James Leonard works with acrylics on canvas using bold horizontal and vertical strokes and strong color to reach the viewer. He describes his own work as complex in scope, yet quiet in interpretation. Exhibited in Europe and the U.S., Leonard's work is part of many corporate collections, including NASA's Stennis Space Center and Lifoka Grafische in Holland. “Art has always been the focus of my life,” he says. “As such art, like life, is a process. Just as our lives unfold in unique and beautiful ways, so do my paintings have their own unique individual expression. As an artist, I strive to guide each painting to its fulfillment. The process is like a circle, without beginning or end.”
